Meet our Honorees
Adrienne Rubin is a loving wife, mother, businesswoman, and recent author of a memoir Diamonds, and Scoundrels: My Life in the Jewelry Business. Originally a high school French teacher, Adrienne published two cookbooks for charity before deciding to go into business as an importer of fine jewelry. She sold to stores across the country and eventually opened Avanti Fine Jewelry, her jewelry store in Beverly Hills. The proceeds from her new book will be donated to support Arthritis Foundation.
As a young couple, Adrienne quickly learned to support her husband Stan as he went through the devastating ordeal of osteoarthritis in his early 30s. Having experienced the agony of hip replacement and back fusions, Stan became very vested in Arthritis Foundation, and Adrienne joined by volunteering as an advocate. Their quests to find a cure and help ease the pains of others, especially children, has motivated them to become the top fundraisers of Arthritis Foundation, Los Angeles.
For Adrienne, “Fundraising for Arthritis has become an important part of my life because we can, and we must find a cure. We have made great strides, but we’re not there yet. I am constantly surprised at the number of people I know who suffer silently. That’s why I encourage everyone to donate and am so grateful for your contributions. Altogether, we do make a huge difference to improve the lives of many.”
Through the Arthritis Foundation, the Rubins found the information and resources they needed to understand arthritis better and develop strategies for managing the disease. About a decade ago, Adrienne took up the challenge to be a part of the CCC bike tour, rode alongside other mission enthusiasts from the coast of San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise awareness and support for the mission. This year, we are proud to honor Adrienne Rubin with the Jane Wyman Humanitarian Award!
