Dr. Fearer earned his undergraduate degree from Westmont College (1977). While completing work on a bachelor's degree in psychology, exposure to the world of medicine prompted career track redirection. Consequently he pursued post-baccalaureate studies in biological sciences at the University of California at Irvine (1977-1979), thereafter obtaining his medical degree from the University of California at Los Angeles (1983).
Following UCLA graduation, Dr. Fearer completed post-graduate training consisting of an internship and residency in internal medicine at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital (1983-1987). He has been licensed to practice medicine in California since 1985.
Dr. Fearer is a diplomate of the American Board oflnternal Medicine (1987). He additionally earned a certificate of added qualifications in Geriatric Medicine, renewed and current (April 1992; November 2002; October 2013). Dr. Fearer has been a practicing geriatrician for 30 years (1988).
Dr. Fearer is familiar with all aspects of the care of elderly patients. He maintains private office hours in Montecito, but sees his patients in the office, in the hospital, in the assisted-living setting, in the skilled nursing facility, and at times in their homes.
Dr. Fearer's medical directorship duties have included medical directorship at the Cottage Hospital Subacute Unit ( 1991-2015), attending physician/associate medical director at Casa Dorinda (198 8- present), and medical director at Samarkand (2000-present). He served as vice-chairman for Santa Barbara on the board of the Central Coast Alzheimer's Association. Other community involvement includes worship leadership at Santa Barbara Community Church.
Dr. Fearer is delighted to have been invited in October 2017 to join the caregiving team as medical director at Valle Verde.
